Suffocation

With the beginning of the winter, there are a lot of house incidents related with suffocation due to the permanent presence of citizens inside the houses, as our houses are the rest and stability after the end of the summer, as in the winter, the citizen does not find a comfortable place as his house. Hence, the most important types of these incidents are suffocation incidents with various types, that resulting from the misuse of heaters. The use of various heating devices, especially those that work on fuel, is very frequent. The use of these types of heaters requires full caution in following proper and correct methods of operating and firefighting it, and how it to provide with fuel, all that is great danger to humans. One of the most wrong practice in using the heaters is: to put the heater inside the bathroom during the shower process, which increases the percentage of toxic gases and suffocation resulting from the combustion process and leaving the heater switch on during sleep is an important cause of the suffocation, and also do not forget the fireplaces, as some people leave firewood burning in fireplaces inside the house without appropriate and necessary ventilation to change the air inside the house. Gas heaters also play a major role in suffocation operations. Because of do not check the hose between the cylinder and the heater every time, replace the leak-proof lids with replace each cylinder and check the valve's validity and put it in ventilated rooms. The installation of gas heaters inside the bathroom or closed place inside the house leads to suffocation because of the possibility of suffocated leakage gas, which leads to the deaths of people during the process of use. Also, Smoking has a major role in the suffocation process; as we know that the substance in cigarette is toxic and suffocating material because it is filled with toxic gases that play a major role in the suffocation process if the ventilation is not good and appropriate for the closed places, especially the bedrooms. As cessation of smoking is a basic requirement for your safety and to protect your children from the suffocation risk. The misuse of gas cylinders during cooking has a large and important role in the suffocation process as the gas is an oil product consisting of a mixture of Butane and Propane odorless but adds a substance with a strong in order to distinguish the leakage in order to be safe in the using. Mainly for cooking and heating water in the winter, and as a product that is difficult to dispense with, it is necessary to be careful of leakage gas from flow regulators, valves, pipes and joints inside the kitchen.

Prepared for winter

There is no doubt that the winter is " good seasons" specificity according to the nature of accidents that may occur during the months of this season due to the weather conditions that affect on the Kingdom during the winter; such as the torrential floods and the closing of sub-and main roads and downpour of snow As well as drowning accidents that may be exposed to some, especially children in the absence of supervision assumed and required by parents or those who take their place in schools, fosterling. In addition to the fire incidents, especially the houses fires due to the wrong use of heating devices by some, as well as the suffocation incidents every year, which kill people due to the wrong use of heaters, especially the portable. Winter, with its good hopes, in some conditions may also have other aspects that require pre- preparedness and prevention, especially when the Kingdom is exposed to deep and low pole air that resulting from it an unusual condition need of us require to take all necessary procedures and measures to overcome caused by weather conditions with the least possible losses both human and property losses. In the fact, the civil defence, we have gone through many previous experiences in the past years, where The procedures had taken together with the efforts of the official and voluntary bodies has played a prominent role in dealing with all incidents efficiently compared with incidents of this types, it was occur in other countries of the world. Before winter, all of our field directorates are advised to prepare for the availability of staff, equipment and vehicles to deal with any emergency case that may occur "Allah forbid" due to weather conditions. Comprehensive instructions are issued to deal with weather conditions. And these instructions have preparing to perform in unusual weather conditions. Also, it was provided the civil defence with modern vehicles and equipment within what the possibility and condition allow it to deal with various types of incidents. For example, the fire and rescue vehicles are equipped with snow removal blades to facilitate its movement and its tasks in dealing with accidents if occurred and in prevailing weather conditions, especially in the heavy snow case. It also makes sure the readiness of water suction motor and lighting motor and various operations equipment, and the processing of chains of sutures necessary for the vehicles movement if the snow was heavy. Then it raises the readiness of human resources and in the expected weather condition. The Civil Defence, in all its sites is ready to deal with the incident. The main and subsidiary operation rooms of the Civil defence are sustainable on 24 hours in order to receive any incident reports on the Emergency call (199) and respond to the call of the citizen, especially during the winter. Because of the safety of the citizen is the first priority in our interests, that the raising awareness and educating them about the dangers that they may face and how to avoid it. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department through the media awareness’s the all categories of society with the nature of the risks, and performs the media plan of the weather conditions where performing the preventive education programs, which means activating the role of citizens in the pre-preparation for the winter as well as issuing awareness brochures that issued during the emergency case, which all are aimed to establish the concept of preventive awareness among citizens, which is the most important link in confronting the causes of accidents and reducing its effects. Furthermore, the General Directorate of Civil Defence coordinates with the concerned bodies about this regard. The pre-preparation of the all concerned bodies reduces the incidents, which certainly reduces the responsibilities of all bodies’ emergency cases, and provides for it with full-time opportunity to deal with important incidents that directly concern with the safety of souls. It is worth mentioning that, based on the keenness of His Majesty King Abdullah II on the safety of the citizen and his assistance in overcoming the conditions that threats his life and achievements, the Higher Council of Civil defence through a special committee is in a permanent meeting during any emergency case needs to follow up and exert official and private efforts to prevent risks of any type and size. Therefore, the unusual weather conditions are the most important cases where the Higher Council of Civil defence through the Special Committee a meeting to manage the emergency conditions, especially the unusual weather conditions, as well as the civil defence committees in all administrative formations in the Kingdom, especially if these conditions and cases have a negative impact on the daily life, such as the closing the roads by snow and reaching water to residential districts and power outages and stop some of the public services are difficult to give up it. This special committee, which includes representatives from all concerned parties, takes all necessary procedures to deal with emergency cases that do not reach to disaster level. Where, a detailed working plan is putting to deal with the emergency cases and to identify the required roles from each side, the General Directorate of Civil defence and before winter season addresses the Minister of the Interior in his capacity as a Head of the Higher Council of Civil defence to inform all ministries and departments to take all necessary arrangements for the preparation of the winter and dealing with emergency cases that possible occur, then in order to activate the civil defence plans by these bodies which aims to exceed any incident by least possible losses. Also, the General Directorate of Civil defence through the specialized department coordinates with Jordan Meteorology Department to provide us with the expected weather broadcast in detail and throughout the winter period, which informs the weather broadcast to all our field directorates and centers, which activates the prepared plans to deal with weather conditions and coordination with Administrative Governor and concerned bodies within various jurisdictions. The citizen role: The good and pre-preparation to deal with unusual weather conditions reduces the loss of souls and properties, and the procedures are taken by citizens and institutions are play an important role in avoiding any accidents that may result. For example: checking and maintenance the channels water and water drainage limits the height of water level in which may be reach to the houses and institutions that caused a great damage, as well as the necessary efforts and expenditures that can be avoided and available if preventive precautions are taken. There is no doubt that the numbers of citizens have been exposed in previous years to losses due to high levels of water and the flow to their homes as a result of heavy rainfall, Therefore, we remind these citizens, whose homes are located in low areas, to take preventive and precautionary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring and to expose their homes to such dangers again, either by finding practical solutions to avoid the causes of these incidents and to move to safer places or at least provide Water suction equipment personally and self-reliant, especially in houses that frequent reaching waters in several times of each winter. Here, It should be noted to importance of providing the water motors by large institutions, industrial groups and commercial complex, which have proved the experiences of the past years reaching rainwater and do not rely on the official bodies, as it is necessary to cooperate all sectors in order to prevent the risks and dealing with it in accordance with the comprehensive concept of civil defence, which requires the participation of all in the civil defence work in emergency cases, The civil defence estimates any exerted efforts by all sectors in the prevention of risks for the honorable citizen and the achievements of the homeland, which considering the safety of the citizen is the goal and care by the Hashemite leadership. Some procedures should be taken by all concerned both institutions and staff such as: the importance of each institution to activate its plans for weather conditions when needed. Fuel stations are supplied with fuel according to weather broadcast. Periodical maintenance should perform for electrical wires, windows and doors. The necessary maintenance should perform for various types of heaters, as central heating, especially boiler rooms. The things can move by strong winds should install such as metal panels, television, boards, water tanks and others. Do not leave houses during snow except for necessity, and to comply the instructions issued by the General Security and Civil defence which regarding to the roads. Do not overstatement about reporting on the actual incidents.

Some wrong practices in using the heaters are: supplying the heater during turn on because it increases the flame suddenly, that lead to a fire with the possibility of the spill of kerosene on the torch and exposure the person safety that is supplying and the occupants of the house to direct danger. The General Directorate of Civil defence calls on citizens who use firewood in heating, especially in these days when it is very cold, to take safety instructions while using it, so that firewood should be used in heating outside the place where the family lives until to ignite completely and cut off the rising smoke from it with the need to maintain the proper ventilation in addition to not left in the room when completed and extinguished outside the house, As the heaters working on LPG, which must be dealing with carefully and a high degree of responsibility, both in terms of Check the hose between the cylinder and the heater, and replace the leakage seal with each cylinder, as well as the need to check the validity of the valve because it reduces the seriousness. in addition to need to the appropriate ventilation and do not leave heaters inside the room when completed and switched off outside the house, As for the heaters that work on the LNG, which must be handled with caution and a high degree of responsibility, both in terms of inspecting hoses between the cylinder and the heater body and replace the leakage "lashes" with each cylinder in addition to the need to check the validity of the valve because it reduces the seriousness. The General Directorate of Civil defence calls on the citizens to take care and caution during dealing with electricity heaters. And don’t load the receptacle (plug) over capacity, and to close it, and to keep it away from our children to avoid a fire, Allah forbid. It was recently observed that many citizens use heaters that work on Pomace (pressed olive residues). So that, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department in the General Directorate of the Civil defence confirms on the citizens who use this material are producing a quantity of gas and elements that are dangerous to the citizens in case if these materials are not used properly and it cause serious damage to the surrounding environment. In addition, Pomace consists of Large elements such as zinc, copper and manganese so that its concentration in a place that lacks constant ventilation to nausea, headache, eye sensitivity and persistent cough. So, you should work continuously to ventilate the place as well and to avoid burning this material inside the house, but to ignite it in the outside the house to get rid of the heavy smoke resulting from the start of combustion, then transported to the inside by container of Coal. Also, with regard to using a Pomace in the Diesel and Kerosene heaters, you must clean constantly because of the products of the combustion of Pomace material, which leaving impurities saturated with fats, and it works to close and damage the ventilation outlets of these heaters. Points to be considered during Eid Al Adha

It’s highly recommended to follow certain instructions to avoid dangers that threaten our safety especially children. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department in the General Directorate of Civil Defence recommends carrying out proper preventive measures during Eid days On the other hand, the department warned against some wrong behaviors that children commit during such events like playing with fireworks, bb guns, and toys with sharp edges that may cause harm for them. Therefore, parents should observe their children, prevent them from playing games or pursuing hobbies that are unsuitable for them. In addition, they should not leave children alone at home because this may endanger their lives. Furthermore, children gatherings and playing on roads may make them vulnerable to many dangers such as running over. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department recommended to carry out safety measures while driving considering that traffic becomes so active during the Eid due to the Eid visits. Besides, traffic accidents may increase due to the expected cold weather and heavy rains. In addition, the Prevention and Self-Protection Department checked entertainment and play areas to make sure of their conformity with public safety requirements. Since the Eid days coincide with such cold days, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department is calling upon citizens to give attention to the safe use of heating devices by checking them in a continuous manner, ventilating the area in which they exist considering that gatherings of relatives and friends during this occasion requires focusing on safety issues including proper ventilation in the rooms where such gatherings exist if heaters are used for long periods of time, turning them off before sleeping, avoiding electrical overloads from one electrical outlet, and checking wires. It goes without saying that the General Directorate of Civil Defence has activated the previously prepared emergency plan through maintaining operation rooms 24 hours a day to keep in touch with citizens, receive their notifications and raise preparedness level of vehicles, equipment and human resources. Finally, the General Directorate of Civil Defence is calling upon citizens to call 199 whenever they need.

Gas Cylinders

Natural gas is petroleum odorless and colorless product that includes propane and butane, and it is one of the necessary consumption items. Every home, lab and plant need gas cylinders of various sizes for cooking or heating. They can cause great dangers since gas is an inflammable material with a very low flash point and moves air button up; it’s an inflammable and explosive material within room temperature if there is enough oxygen and (proper) flame. Its true that this material is (very friendly) but it must be used in the right manner. Most accidents caused by using gas refer to ignoring prevention and public safety requirements. Statistics of Operation Department in the General Directorate of Civil Defence (2006) indicates that there were 233 gas leakage accidents that caused 119 injuries and 3 fatalities. In case there is gas leakage in the house, people have to: 1. Keep calm, 2. Evacuate the area, 3. Ventilate it by opening windows and doors, 4. Avoid doing anything that may produce sparks such as friction, avoid using electrical switches, smoking, matches, etc.. Any flame can cause gas ignition and explosion. Therefore, the Civil Defence highly recommends closing the cylinder valve, and putting the cylinder in another well ventilated location. Since this gas is heavier than air, it gathers in low areas and it can be deconcentrated and removed by water through washing floors and pouring water in the sewage system for gas can exist there. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department reassures the importance of proper use of gas cylinders starting with manufacturing till they reach hands of consumers. Production of these cylinders is carried out through several phases and they must be always maintained after that. Jopetrol have to fill the cylinders and check them to replace the expired ones and repair those that need to be repaired. Distributing agencies are also involved in dealing with cylinders (and submitting them to consumers), they should deal with cylinders with extreme caution and they have to carry and move them carefully considering the directions of the General Directorate of Civil Defence in this regard. Dealing with the cylinders properly during loading and discharging in gas cylinder filling stations or during delivering, storing, and installing. This provides protection for cylinders from deficiencies. It could be true that the main stage that follows taking the cylinder out of gas filling stations towards storehouses and distributors is assigned to owners of gas distribution agencies and their laborers and owners of warehouses also must meet certain safety standards. In addition, distributing agencies play an important role through their laborers during installation inside homes and they must check them after that and don't rely on citizens to do that for they may not be familiar with this process in order to prevent fires. As for gas cylinder uses, they must be utilised in a safe manner considering the instructions of the Information and Preventive Awareness Department of the General Directorate of Civil Defence in order to any dangers. It goes without saying that these cylinders must be stored in a properly ventilated place away from inflammable materials, so they must be placed vertically on a suitable object considering preventing them from hitting surrounding objects to avoid explosions. The General Directorate of Civil Defence is calling upon citizens to carry out the following safety instructions in dealing with gas cylinders: They must be treated with utmost caution putting them in a suitable place on an object over the ground to protect it from humidity, Avoid rolling the cylinder, Protect it from hitting, Check the cylinder after installation using water and soap foam rather than ignition sources such as matches, Check the regulator and hose regularly ( preferably every six months) and change them when needed, Use good quality items that is in accordance with specifications, and Hoses should be fixed using special harnesses. If fire erupted in the cylinder body or the hose, it has to be extinguished using fire extinguishers that must be available in every kitchen. If there are no suitable extinguishers, a wet piece of cloth or any blanket can be used to put out the fire. In case of gas leakage, the place must be ventilated properly by opening windows and doors and avoid using any ignition sources without making sure that the place is free of leaked gas. Besides, always check gas cookers, hoses and keys to prevent leakage. Moreover, its recommended to shut the cylinder valve after using and watch the children and don’t let them play with these cylinders. Since safety is the supreme goal of the General Directorate of Civil Defence, it calls upon citizens to carry out the instructions of the Information and Preventive Awareness Department to avoid any accident.

Electrical Devices

Electricity is considered a source of power and one of the amenities that eases life. In spite of its many advantages, it endangers lives and property; it may cause fatal fires, explosions and accidents. They may happen due to ignoring the related safety instructions. The General Directorate of Civil Defence issued some instructions to spread awareness among citizens through publications, posters, etc. to protect lives and property. According to the statistics of the Operation Department in the General Directorate of Civil Defence, most electricity accidents are domestic accidents; this refers to not carrying out needed maintenance for electrical devices and wires and ignoring the instructions of using electrical devices. Therefor, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department is calling upon citizens to do proper maintenance procedures for the electrical wires and devices and change the damaged ones, cut electricity during maintenance, watch children to prevent them from playing with the electrical devices and sockets, cover the sockets to avoid electrical shocks specially if children put metal objects with wet hands. Moreover, electrical geysers are widely used. If not used properly, they may cause suffocation, wires may melt and damage hence fires that may cause loss of lives and property due to thermostat malfunction, safety valve blockage, or water disruption from the tanker. Therefore, geysers must be installed by professional experts, its parts needs to be checked to avoid explosions and malfunctions, and needed maintenance have to be conducted. In addition, those who work in the field of electricity have to consider safety instructions since they are most vulnerable to dangers of electricity. It goes without saying that ignoring safety instructions and lack of awareness may threaten their lives. Ignoring safety instructions when dealing heaters, especially electrical heaters, may cause great dangers. Therefore, avoid using bad wires, putting them under rags or furniture, or putting heaters in the house paths especially during nights because they may fall on the nearby furniture. Besides, ventilation fans is considered a main cause of house fires due to using them for long periods of time and this may result in malfunctions hence fires. Furthermore, these fans may spread fires in the house. So, they must be turned off before sleeping and they shouldn't be turned on for long, they have to be cleaned from grease always and switched off before cleaning. The General Directorate of Civil Defence is calling upon citizens to do the following in this regard: 1. Consider the approved specifications in the designing phase and make sure that these wires are installed properly by an expert. 2. Carry out maintenance for electricity networks, heaters and their parts by a professional expert. 3. Don't touch electrical devices and keys with wet hands. 4. Cut off electricity when cleaning or maintaining houses such as washing walls, floors or ceilings. 5. Avoid putting wires near sources of heat like heaters. 6. Avoid running more than two machines through the same socket. 7. Use socket protective covers especially for the sockets near the reach of children. 8. Follow the instructions of using electrical devices regarding voltage and mode of operation. In conclusion, safety procedures are not expensive compared to the dangers of electricity. .

Persons with disabilities

Taking care of the persons with disabilities is one of the important human rights that international human rights agreements emphasized; it measures true level of nation’s development. We should take care of them and being familiar with dealing with hazards properly so that they can have a safe life in return of what they did for Jordan. Besides, the General Directorate of Civil Defence gives special attention to persons with disabilities through strengthening the concept of safety that is based on the comprehensive Civil Defence concept which is based on turning each and every citizen into a Civil Defence member. Carrying out safety measures is not only an important requirement in all fields but also it is the only way to protect citizens and their property. Each and every institution should work hard in order to achieve this goal; they should support the General Directorate of Civil Defence in this regard. Moreover, the general directorate of Civil Defence encourages its departments and directorates to be involved in the activities of our community and develop their services that is pursuant to the community vision that assigns great responsibility to the Civil Defence by providing all buildings and facilities with special safety requirements and personal protection means for the disabled. Establishing a safe environment for them through using all sources of innovation and modernization to deal with accidents and carrying out all duties related to them professionally. In addition, the directorate has qualified members that can provide proper services for the disabled, thus, spreading professionalism among the whole community to enable any citizen to deal with the persons with disabilities during emergencies. Since the directorate is eager to spread awareness among citizens about dealing with persons with disabilities the Civil Defence has held courses for the institutions concerned in educating persons with disabilities. The courses included training participants on carrying out Civil Defence duties during emergencies such as using extinguishers, evacuating these institutions with minimal fatalities, providing paramedic, firefighting and rescue services immediately after any accident before the arrival of the Civil Defence members. Moreover, the Prevention and Self-Protection Department within the directorate provides special services for them through visiting the related institutions continuously to check the requirements of prevention and self-protection including exits and entrances designed specially for the people with disabilities. Besides, the department uses modern equipment in this regard and provides manual and automatic firefighting systems and a special alarm system for the disabled. Moreover, employers and directors bear the responsibility of offering power sources, heating devices and public safety requirements. This can achieved by checking the new buildings in terms of having special paths and elevators in them and providing signals that lead to exits. In addition, the General Directorate of Civil Defence holds, upon the request of public and private entities that is concerned about these people, courses on prevention and self-protection, life support, rescue and fire fighting for the occupants of these buildings. The goal behind holding these courses is to enable citizens to deal with people with disabilities and spread awareness. Many institution owners have responded positively and applied requirements of prevention and self-protection in appreciation of the achievements of these people. Accordingly, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department is calling upon citizens to do the following: • Use sliding doors instead of the outward opening doors because of their ease of use and safety, • Using doors with round knobs, • Avoid putting any obstacles or hanging any objects that may cause harm for these people, • Use strong lights, be they ordinary or spare lights, in the buildings where there are disabled occupants to facilitate evacuation if any danger occurs, • Choose bills with amplifiers to be used in houses of the hearing impaired people; they should issue visual signals, • Install alarm devices that are provided with visual signals in easily seen places, • Coordinating with the Civil Defence through courses and being familiar with recent developments regarding serving the disabled persons, • Building institutions in a manner that suits the disabled persons in terms of designing, entrances and exits.

Fireworks during Eid Vacations

Setting off fireworks is very common during eid especially among kids who are unaware of the dangers of misusing them. These materials are means of showing excitement. Despite of their beauty, they are considered hazardous materials unless safety instructions are considered. Therefore, the Civil Defence is calling upon people to deal with them very carefully during ignition, following the instructions of dealing with them such as keeping them in underground warehouses with certain specifications. These warehouses must be isolated with inflammable materials, they have to be in conformity with standards and specifications of explosives and their storage and this is considered part of the sound storage process. As for dealing with these materials, you should avoid using sharp or rigid tools such as nippers or hammers when opening wooden boxes and avoid dealing with explosives in a violent manner to prevent sparks which may cause fires. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department calls upon citizens to deal with these explosive materials very carefully during ignition and check their expiry date before setting off because they may endanger those the surrounding people. Besides, setting them off should be organized away from people assemblies and power resources such as electrical transformers or wires to avoid flames or electrical short-circuits. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department recommends setting off these explosives by a professional expert from high places to avoid emergencies. Besides, a representative of the Public Security must supervise ignition process to reduce accidents and casualties. It goes without saying that its highly important to follow prevention and self-protection instructions related to explosives during storage, transportation and sale then setting them off during happy occasions.

Sound Instructions of using Extinguishers

These are simple tools that should exist everywhere for their importance in putting out fires from the very beginning to reduce material losses. The main duty of the Civil Defence is to carry out proper protective instructions to deal with accidents. Protective measures are most effective in preventing fires. Sometimes, extinguishers may be the only way to put out fires before the arrival of the Civil Defence. Therefore, citizens should be familiar with using them properly and choose the right extinguisher since each type is used effectively with only certain fires. It goes without saying that the General Directorate of Civil Defence holds, throuh different its directorates and sections, specialized courses in coordination with governmental and private institutions on using extinguishers. In order to facilitate using them in emergencies, their colors were standardized but they differ in the colors of their necks. Water extinguisher's neck is red; it is used in suppressing rigid materials fires such as wood and plastic. Powder extinguishers are known for their blue color; they are used in putting out liquefied, solid and gas inflammable materials fires like petroleum products. CO2 extinguishers are distinguished with black color and they are used to put out electrical fires in addition to solid, liquid and gas material fires. Foam extinguishers are distinguished with beige color and they are used in putting out inflammable materials fires. Accordingly, people have to be familiar with using extinguishers properly in order to avoid damages and achieve the purpose of using them. The General Directorate of Civil Defence recommends applying the following steps in this regard: 1. Choose the appropriate extinguisher for each fire, 2. Choose the extinguisher before going to the fire site; 3. Pull the safety pin and press extinguisher's handle only once, 4. Carry the extinguisher and run towards the fire, 5. Stand downwind, 6. Leave a safety distance between you ( the fire fighter) and the fire, 7. Start with the fire base, and 8. Watch it after fire fighting to prevent fires from regnitting. It goes without saying that these extinguishers are very important everywhere including homes, cars, offices, small businesses, factories, and public and private entities to control fires and reduce fatalities and material losses. The General Directorate of Civil Defence is calling upon citizen to carry out regular maintenance for these extinguishers, check their preparedness and put them in a suitable place so that it can be seen by everyone. Don't forget to put them in a high point at the ends of paths and stairs and away from the reach of children. Keep in mind that fires always start small. Therefore, don't ignore minor fires.

In order to reduce accidents, children must not be left alone at home because they are not aware of dangers. Information and Preventive Awareness Department is calling upon citizens to avoid any wrong behavior that may cause casualties and losses particularly during announcing the results; mainly shooting fire in happy occasions. Moreover, fireworks shouldn't be set off at random; there should be previous preparations and an expert have to be assigned to watch the process which should be in a safe place a way from assemblies (under the supervision of the Public Security Department). It goes without saying that kids shouldn't be allowed to have such materials to play with for this may cause wounds for them. .

Falling Accidents

Falling from heights be they high stores, rocks, windows, construction projects are very common. They are mentioned in almost every report of the Operation Department issued on a daily basis. They are caused by ignoring personal prevention instructions such as approaching high rocks, sitting near the windows that don't have protection bars or working in the high stories without carrying out protective measures. They are caused by many reasons mainly ignoring preventive measures at home or at work. In an attempt to mitigate the most frequent accidents, the Civil Defence focuses on domestic falling accidents especially those with children casualties due to not having protection means in many houses especially in the multi- story buildings. The main reason of these accidents is allowing children to play on the roofs like kite running. Other reasons that may cause children to fall is playing on the unprotected stairs which can be very dangerous specially for infants. In most of the cases, this type of accidents is very severe and can be fatal. The Information and Preventive Awareness Department is warning citizens who live in the countryside to watch their children while playing or during picnics to prevent falling from trees. Furthermore, those who ride bicycles should be very careful and parents have to watch their kids while riding them because falling from bicycles can endanger their lives. Citizens are also warned not to approach dangerous high rocks to avoid falling. As for construction projects, this is an active building period. Therefore, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department stresses the importance of following safety instructions such as using scaffoldings and ladders. In addition, employers have to circulate safety instructions among the workers. Moreover, projects and excavation sites should be surrounded with a warning tape to prevent people and vehicles from falling. According to accident statistics 2007 issued by the Operation Department, the General Directorate of Civil Defence and its centers have dealt with 100 falling accidents that caused 38 injuries and 4 fatalities. Therefore, the Information and Preventive Awareness Department is calling upon citizens to do the following: 1. Installing protection means on roofs, balconies, windows and stairs. 2. Don't leave anything on the roof that children may stand on and look down. 3. Warning children and watching them by keeping them away from dangers. 4. Don't allow children to climb high trees or sit on them for this may cause falling. 5. Follow safety instructions in the construction sites. 6. Identify excavation and hazardous areas with a warning tape. 7. Prevent Children from climbing trees or approaching sharp and high rocks during picnics. 8. Circulate public safety instructions. 9. Paying attention to kids and warn them to ride bicycles carefully. 10. Remind them of the dangers of falling from them.

Traffic Accidents; ( A Non-Stopping Bleeding)

Traffic accidents became a nightmare that threatens the whole community and exhausts the material and humanitarian resources. Besides, they endanger the most valuable element of life which is human power. Recent statistics about these accidents reveal horrible facts; they are the biggest second killer in Jordan after cardiovascular diseases. In fact, they are more important than whatever may have our attention in daily life; in 2007, the number of daily accidents was 100630, they caused 994 fatalities and 17969 were wounded. An accident is notified about every 5 minutes, a citizen is killed in a traffic accident every 10 hours and five children dies every week. Besides, about 98 thousand accidents that claimed the death of 885 persons were recorded and the number of vehicles has increased by 17 % and reached 800 thousand. Furthermore, the daily material losses of these accidents is about 700 thousand JD be they the costs of repairing vehicles, treating casualties or the assumed value of fatalities. In addition to the losses that insurance companies incurred because of these accidents which reached about 2 million JD. After analyzing these statistics it’s obvious that drivers are in charge of many car accidents. It may be true that population growth and the increased number of vehicles and roads' weak capacity to receive this huge number of vehicles is a main cause of accidents. Moreover, about 99.4% of accidents refer to human faults while vehicle malfunctions and road problems caused about 6% of them. ). Therefore, we are all part of this calamity and we all have to do something to face the wrong behaviors of drivers and pedestrians be they on the streets, at schools, in the working sites, universities or playgrounds. Most of those who are responsible for accidents are youth who should bear the responsibility of reducing these accidents rather than increasing their number, this can be achieved through campaigns and workshops that spread awareness among people. It goes without saying that the Hashemite leadership has spared no effort in pushing this danger away from people through suitable strategies, enhancing cooperation to face this calamity, and carrying out proper steps. Moreover, the entitled institutions have to provide needed services and do their duties to decrease the number of accidents such as activate speed monitoring, avoid double standards and be fair when applying laws. Supervise maintaining traffic signs that are required to achieve comfort and protect lives from accidents. In addition, means of transportation gives us the comfort of going from one place to another very easily. However, we have to be familiar with driving techniques. We are very determined to fulfill the directives of our Hashemite glorious leadership through following prevention means in all life aspects.
